After 28 years of dedicated service (15 of which he served as President), Bob Nichols, President of the Central Park Dance Skaters Association (CPDSA), will be stepping down at the end of the 2022 skate season.

THE ELECTIONS WILL TAKE PLACE ON OCTOBER 15, 2022.

CPDSA MEMBERS WILL VOTE FOR UP TO 15 BOARD OF DIRECTORS (BOD).
Of those 15 Board of Directors, four will serve as officers. These positions include:

  1. President
  2. Vice President
  3. Secretary
  4. Treasurer
  5. Sargent at Arms

IN ADDITION TO THE OFFICER POSITIONS DESCRIBED ABOVE, THE CPDSA WILL VOTE ON UP TO 10 NON-OFFICER BOARD OF DIRECTORS.
Non-officer Board members play a vital role in the functioning and growth of CPDSA. Responsibilities of a non-officer member of the Board of Directors include:

  • Managing and directing the policies and procedures of the CPDSA
  • Serving on subcommittees on everything from Social Media, Music, Communications, Membership, Equipment, Grounds, etc.

TO RUN FOR OFFICE:
  • To run for any of the five officer positions above or as a non-officer Board member, candidates should email ELECTIONS@CPDSA.ORG to express an intention to run.
  • Candidates must express their intent to run by SEPTEMBER 6, 2022, 2022.
  • To run for office, CPDSA members must have their 2022 membership dues paid by SEPTEMBER 30, 2022.
  • Candidates must post the following documents to ELECTIONS@CPDSA.ORG by SEPTEMBER 12, 2022:
    • A written statement between 100-115 words for officers, 25 words for non-officers. Please write about yourself describing how well you are suited for the position
    • A recent photo portrait (no older than 1 year), sharp, without sunglasses so voters can recognize a candidate’s face. Please DO NOT provide a photo of yourself skating. Your portrait should clearly identify you, like a photo ID.
    • Contact info that includes email, cell phone number, and social media handles (digital addresses on social platforms, e.g., Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc.)
    • The Election Committee will showcase the candidates’ profiles and photos on the CPDSA website with links posted on its social media platforms for easy access, propagation, and self-campaigning.

TO VOTE IN THE ELECTIONS:
  • CPDSA members must have their 2022 membership dues paid by SEPTEMBER 30, 2022.

  • NOTE: The minimum level of membership is priced at $26. Any amount above $26 is a tax-deductible donation and needed to pay for yearly permits, insurance, and other expenses that enable skate sessions to operate.
    None of the members of the BOD, its Officers, the DJs, or those who set up and take down the Skate Circle receive any monetary or other compensation.

BOARD OF DIRECTORS OFFICER POSITION DESCRIPTIONS

NOTE: Officers’ positions are best suited for candidates who can dedicate a decent amount of their time to the CPDSA and its management and activities. In addition, the positions require good written communication skills, including proper English and grammar, as a fair number of documents and correspondence are drafted yearly.

Future BODs may amend the responsibilities and duties of any of the positions below.

  1. President
    The role of the President is to “preside” over the BOD and not to “govern” the CPDSA.
    All decisions that regard the CPDSA and its activities are DECIDED AND VOTED BY THE
    BOD, not the President.

    Responsibilities and duties include (but are not limited to):
    • Directing and presiding over all BOD meetings
    • Serving as a member of representative subcommittees
    • Serving as the official liaison between the CPDSA and The City of New York, The Parks Department, The Police Department, and The Central Park Conservancy
    • Obtaining all permits and insurance for legally sanctioned, safe, and secure skating sessions
    • Understanding and overseeing the legal, tax, and other critical operating matters to keep the skate
    circle alive with respect to the City, State, and Federal laws and regulations of a 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization
    • Scheduling and setting up BOD meetings not previously determined at a meeting

    NOTE: At his/her discretion, the President may delegate any of the above functions to other officers or BOD members on a case-by-case basis.

  2. Vice President
    Responsibilities and duties include (but are not limited to):
    • Assuming all the responsibilities and duties of the President if the President is incapable of carrying out his/her responsibilities (either temporarily or permanently) until the President can resume them or until the next elections.
    • Taking on specific responsibilities delegated by the President as he/she sees fit
    • Representing the CPDSA in the Press as a delegate of the President

    NOTE: Candidates for this position must be willing and able to cover all duties and responsibilities described in the President’s position.

  3. Secretary
    Responsibilities and duties include (but are not limited to):
    • Recording the proceedings of meetings and enters them into the final minutes of the meeting.
    • Minutes include:
    o All decisions reached by the end of a BOD meeting
    o The names of BOD members and invited non-BOD guests attending a meeting
    o The outcome of all votes conducted during a meeting
    o The topics covered during a meeting (in bullet points only)
    • Monitoring BOD meetings to ensure that all actions, decisions, etc. conform to the requirements specified in the corporate by-laws
    • Recommending by-law amendments to the BOD as they appear to be necessary
    • Drafting any new amendments to be passed by the BOD
    • Any issue, content, etc. specified by the President

  4. Treasurer
    Responsibilities and duties include (but are not limited to):
    • Holding the corporation’s moneys
    • Keeping a record of every financial transaction
    • Presenting all financial records to the BOD every three months

  5. Sargent at Arms
    Responsibilities and duties include (but are not limited to):
    • Gatekeeper at meetings (e.g., welcoming or removing participants as needed)
    • Keeps order at meetings
    • Zoom host
